This intriguing little book, by one of Hudson’s more recognized writers and a descendent of the “Old Stock” of Cumberland settlers, tells of the early life in the southern section of the English speaking settlement in Vaudreuil County known to the locals as St. Henry. Miss Stephenson writes of those early settlers - life on the farm, the church, schools and the harsh winters. She adds spice to the story with quotes in the Irish accent that so many of the early settlers had. The book is liberally laced with anecdotes and little drawings of the region known as St. Henry.
