This little book by one of Hudson’s most famous and remarkable ladies who is also descended from some of the earliest settlers describes the formation of Hudson’s two libraries, the Como Lending Library and the War Memorial Library.
The first one was founded in 1849 and though most of it was destroyed in a fire in 1988, it is still in operation at the rebuilt St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Local artist Timothy Elliott has donated his services and excellent talents with some lovely pen and ink drawings of the various buildings that have housed the libraries throughout the years. Marnie Clarke easily describes the early days of the two libraries and mentions throughout the book those people who were so involved in the formation of both institutions.
